Footwear: Insulated Hunting Boots
June 22, 2008 – 12:43 pmHunters often complain that their feet get cold so quickly during a winter hunt that it can become unbearable to stay outdoors. There are some methods they can use in order to keep their feet warm and comfortable for the duration of their hunt. The two common methods are the use of foot-warmer insoles and insulated hunting boots.
Foot-warmers Versus Insulated Hunting Boots
Foot-warmer insoles are very similar to hand-warmers in that they are activated by air. Insole foot-warmers are placed under the foot inside of the hunting boot and can provide up to several hours of warmth. Hunters can also purchase insulated over boots that slip over the boot itself. These are lightweight and offer added protection from the cold.
Insulated hunting boots utilize Thinsulate which is a very lightweight material designed to keep the feet warm for long periods of time. It is not bulky at all so the comfort level of the hunters feet will not be jeopardized by wearing boots with this lining. Insoles are also lightweight hut they can add bulk when you consider that the hunter will also wear thick socks. There will be less room inside of the boot due to the use of the foot-warmer.
The benefits of wearing a pair of insulated hunting boots are far greater than the other methods for keeping feet warm. With insulated boots you do not have to worry about bringing along over boots or worrying that you only have a few hours left to hunt before your foot-warmers stop working. Insulated boots are designed specifically to provide warmth for long periods of time and are also extremely comfortable. It is well worth looking into when you are in the market for a new pair of cold weather hunting boots.
