Footwear: Insulated Boots

June 23, 2008 – 12:41 pm

Most people associate insulated boots with being heavy in weight and very cumbersome. Until recently this wasnt that far off from the truth. Most outdoor enthusiasts who hike or hunt during the colder months would layer socks underneath their boots for added warmth. Although their feet didnt get cold, the comfort level was lacking severely. It was difficult to drive or walk for long periods of time this way. Thankfully, with research and technology, insulated boots are now lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Qualities of Todays Insulated Boots
Insulated boots today are manufactured using a material called Thinsulate. This material is very lightweight and offers twice the warmth of foam, pile or felt. Even in very damp conditions, Thinsulate protects the foot and helps keep it warm and comfortable.

Thinsulate is very different from other insulations in that it does not get packed down after wear. It is designed so that it continuously traps pockets of warm air in its fibers. Thus the feet will constantly remain warm, even after a long day of hiking or hunting.

Gone are the days of thick, bulky insulted boots. Men and women can enjoy being outdoors and not have to worry about their feet becoming cold, wet or uncomfortable. Insulated boots today are also easy to take from the car straight to the hunt or hike–there is never a need for more than one pair of boots or shoes. Since they are lightweight they are very comfortable and can be worn for cold weather alone, not just for sport.
